Dining Room Dreams

Moving to Oklahoma = cheaper rent = Ashley gets to live in a true single family home for the first time = excitement = dreams come true = Ashley realizes she has no furniture = decorating rampage = desire to purchase everything = Ashley becomes poor = Ashley can no longer afford her single family home = Ashley is homeless with a lot of furniture to sell.

So I’m TRYING my hardest to not go down the detailed path above. As you can see, I’m a panic spiral type person.

In all seriousness, I could not be more excited about living in a true house – something I’ve been wanting for a LONG time. Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of this is that I still am missing a lot of furniture after living in 400-500 square feet for the past 10 years of my life.

One of the best parts of having a new home is having a DINING ROOM. My ultimate desires to have dinner parties, friends over to eat, decorating dining room tables with seasonal runners, etc are all about to come true. As soon as I can pick a table, chairs, rug, curtains, decor, ETC ETC ETC.  It’s pretty easy to become overwhelmed and also try to do things on a budget. I’ll be sharing the development of my dining room with you as it comes together – so to start, here’s a “BEFORE” picture, and some of my current inspiration!

I’m definitely gravitating towards printed rugs, light wood rustic tables, and a seating combo of chairs + an upholstered bench. Wish me luck!

DINING ROOM BEFORE:

Pros: great natural light, crown molding, hardwood floors.

CONS: I want to do a dining room/office which may make the layout tricky. The light fixture is a bit dated but will do.

CURRENT INSPIRATION:

The dining room is a great place to put a fun, patterned rug. This one from Lulu and Georgia is pricey, but I’ve been lusting it for a while!

Love the light wood and rustic feel of this table.

Love the light wood and rustic feel of this table. The nailhead detail on the chairs floats my boat too.

Some open shelving could be fun to add some dimension to the room.

The classy look of hydrangeas in a clear vase never gets old.

Look forward to a DIY table runner project! Can't wait to get into table decor. As soon as I have a table.

Some high wingback chairs are a statement - but I don't think I have room for this trend :(
